Last December, ***Anyone But You*** against the turn the tide became an unexpected box office after the romcom genre was thought to be dead at the box office and being largely confined straight to streaming which was only exacerbated after the pandemic.
So it would be interesting to explore the box office possibilities if both the above titles were granted a traditional studio release at their original dates reviving the concept of the summer blockbuster romcom of the 90’s such as *There’s Something About Mary* or *My Best Friend’s Wedding*.
***The Idea of You*** which is actually based on a book first released in 2017 and likened to a *Harry Styles* fan-fiction in the vein of those *Fifty Shades* books which got a second lease of life in 2020 being one of the most popular books during the pandemic.
It stars *Anne Hathaway* and *Nicholas Galitzine*, the former has an excellent box office track record despite largely shying away from popular franchises while the latter is an emerging face who looks to be on the verge of breakout anyday now.
***Hit Man*** is a joint collaboration between *Richard Linklater* and *Glen Powell* with both writing the script together with *Powell* also starring.
It is an attempt to bring back the screwball romcom playing as a faux Hitchcockian thriller.
So what would be the box office prospects if both these titles instead of a streaming avenue premiered across the box office boulevards?
