Not just saying it because they’re movies that hold nostalgia from 20 years ago. Back before anime became what it is today. More to remind people who once saw them but forgotten. To get those who’ve never heard of them to check them out. Primarily preservation is the reason for the post. I used to own the 10th anniversary edition of ninja scroll. A friend has it, because I never came and got it or maybe was stolen. I forget which reason for not having it. But every so often I want to watch either Ninja Scroll or Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. Both movies directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri.
One being released during the time such movie was called Japanimation(Japanese animation). Roughly 2 years before Ghost in the shell and Neon Genesis Evangelion. A very adult anime about a vagabond tasked to kill a clan of demons lead by someone he thought he killed. The other a sequel to Vampire Hunter D(1985). Which came out in 2000 based on the third novel in the Vampire Hunter D series. The story takes place in the distant future where the undead arise. Basically a vampire movie/story. It follows the main protagonist as he is tasked to save a girl from a vampire nobleman.
A better explanation of Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, from Bonsai Pop – https://youtu.be/thaFh_KOoxA?si=J5MzkpiDOhjr2iY0
Ninja Scroll – https://youtu.be/FHdvMEQ4e_o?si=PZRIFCJbHVAfoPmW
Now the part that’s going to suck to mention. Neither are available on streaming, that I can find… except archived. As for physical copies Ninja Scroll ranges from fair to unfair $30-100+. Due to rights issues there’s likely no reprints. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust might find it streaming. Physical copies are fair and available to buy on Amazon.
